Day 30 in Wuhan

Down with another project.
Today is finally the day that many of us have been waiting for. Today was the presentation day for our 2nd project for BPE. This time round, the project is about the using of the application of the different types of method we have learn previously.
Class started at 2pm and our group was the first one to present.
Presentation went pretty well for everyone, hope is gonna be the same for Project 3.
Looking forward to the Free&Easy week!
Quote of the day-“Winning isn't everything, but the will to win is everything.” -Vince Lombardi
Reflection- After the presentation, everyone felt so relieved and everyone were pretty much in a hoiday mood. Now we're left with Flexim project, and is SHOPPING TIME!!!

Day 29 in Wuhan

Yesterday, we had a gathering with the local students at WUST Clubhouse. The local students were nice enough to book the whole of the KTV room specially for us. :D
Firstly, we have to draw a card before entering the room, after that we grab a seat and we played games. The first game was to guess 1 participants out of the 5 players whom have the saltiest drink. After which the second batch of selected student would have to form teams and burst each others balloon that were being tied on their hands and legs. and lastly musical chair.
Between the various games, there were performance by the NP students too. & from MDE proudly present the indonesian singer , Edy and the pro-locking ROY! WooHoo!
After the gathering, we had a photo taking session before we left the place.
Headed to dormitory to rest. Till around 10pm suddenly a knock on my door and it was Polim asking for the video i took. Is pretty weird as polim will never ever knock onto my room, next a little birthday cake was present to me by the BPQE guys & Daniel, and seconds later, a huge cake came into the room. & then the melodies birthday song sang by the 21 Guns. What a shocking one!
As usual, after the blowing of candles, it was the smashing cake time.
Had a fun time with the creams, and also a great time cleaning up the area, mopping the floor. haha
Thanks guys for the celebration, this is one of my most memorable birthday :)
Thanks for the birthday wishes, from Singapore, Malaysia & China!
Quote of the day-"Only as high as I reach can I grow.Only as far as I seek can I go.Only as deep as I look can I see.Only as much as I dream can I be." -Karen Ravn
Reflection- The facilities of the clubhouse they had in WUST was great. As compared to the alumni clubhouse in NP, it was far much better. The building of the clubhouse was huge and they have all the facilities. You name it, they have it! Would like to thank the local students for planning the gathering before they leave the campus to their hometown.

Day 28 in Wuhan

Today, we had a field trip to QiRui pharmaceutical near our school. Though this trip is specially for LSCT division students, but it is interesting to know how some of the medicine were produce and kept. Throughout the tour, there were a lot of places that were out of bounds, and we only managed to enter the warehouse. The tour was just around the perimeters of the plant, showing us different parts of the plants, mostly the exterior. I guess it would be more interesting if we are allowed to enter the other parts of the factory.
Rested in hostel till dinner time. This time, i'm having dinner with my roomates at KFC. :D Is been a long time ever since we had dinner together. After dinner, we had egg tarts specially by KFC. The fragrance of the egg tart can never be forgotten...
Quote of the day- "Everyone has the power of greatness. Not for fame, but greatness. Because greatness is determined by service." -Dr. Martin Luther King
Reflection- I'm surprised that the plant did not get a international cGMP certification and they are selling the drugs in China. If it is international certified, their business would be so much better.

Day 26 & 27

Gloria Ong have conquer the Wudang Mountain!!! :D

We set off at 7am on Saturday morning and headed off to Wudang San. The trip there was a long one.
We sat on the bus for at least 7 hours, and by the time we reach our destination it was already in the evening. The air was thin and cold at the TaiHe Hotel. Dinner at the hotel and then we had a early night to prepare our hike to Wudang mountain the very next day.
Sunday morning, we set off at around the same time and this was the beginning of the hiking. It was very tiring as there were thousands of steps. According to Dr Tan (LSCT Division lecturer), we climbed a total number of 5121 steps! Impressive!
When we reached the peak of the mountain, everyone was elated. We stayed at the peak for quite awhile as everyone take a breathe of the fresh air. Some of us also purchased a lock on the way up to the mountain, whereby once the lock is being lock, your friendship, kinship and relationship will be locked. 7 of us, Edy, Roy, Polim, YokeMay, MingYu, jarold and myself had our lock together. Probably we can be business partner in the future. haha
After enjoying the beautiful scenery, we headed down to the cable car station, and make our way back. Initially, we wanted to head down the mountain with our legs, however due to time constraint, we will have to take the cable car. The journey took about 20 minutes.
Hanging metres high from the ground floor was no joke. It was scary, but at the same time, I was fascinated over the view. Is been years ever since i took a cable car...
After the cable car ride, we headed to our coach and headed back to WUST.
Everyone just felt asleep soundly when we had the long ride in the bus….
Quote of the day- "The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present."-Alice Morse Earle
Reflection- Everything is in your mind. If you think you can conquer the mountain, you can. But if you think you can't do it, you will never suceed. STAY POSITIVE!

Day 25 in Wuhan

Today is our last day having our IS lesson.
We started class at 9am, and lesson was conducted in a different way. The class was conducted in a Computer lab. All the computers were all controlled by the lecturer, and when u dose off (whereby a person does not touch the computer ) a sign will be shown in Chinese, "please pay attention!". What a creative idea.
Once lesson ended, we headed off to have a photograph session around the school of foreign language. i'm falling in love with the environment more and more!
Looking forward to the weekend.
WuDang San tomorrow :D
Quote of the day- Difficult things take a long time, impossible things a little longer.
Reflection- WUST is pretty advanced. It is not as bad as i think, probably i should change the mentality of China being "Wulu".

Day 24 in Wuhan

Another day of lesson.
Today's lesson started from afternoon, therefore, Group E made use of this time to have lunch together. It is the first time we had our lunch together. We had our lunch at Canteen 1, Potato beef rice. As we enjoy the good food, we went into discussion for our IS Project. Efficient huh!
Today is also a big day for the China Family.
WUST is celebrating China’s 60th Birthday!!! The celebration started in the evening at the admin block. The celebration was very grand, and the performance were by the local people. The people republic of China were just very elated and celebrating happily.
A big family, celebrating their national day together.
Quote of the day- Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before. -Jacob A. Riis
Reflection- In China, they celebrate their national day for 8 days, and they called it the golden week. It was definitely shocking as Singapore only celebrate National day for a maximum of 2 days. Can we have extended national day holidays?

Day 23 in Wuhan

Today was another day off from school, as there were activities planned by WUST.
In the morning, we woke up as early as 8am and headed off to the nearby high element park. The facilities were as good as the outward bounder in Singapore. I'm impressed.
The activities started off just like a camp, whereby we have to create a group name, and we called ourselves, 21 qiang (21 guns), and another name was the Dragon family. We had to draw our flags and also design clothes for our family. We definitely have a great time!
We then had rock climbing. There were two different stages, and I tried the harder one first. For the past years, rock climbing has been a challenge for me, therefore I was reluctant to try on the harder one first. After being encouraged by my fellow pals, I decided to go for it. Though I didn’t climb high up, but I was very satisfied with the final result.
After lots of sweating, it was time for lunch!
After lunch we continued our activities. We had the free fall. For this game, every player is crucial. Just one mistake from anyone can cause a person life.
Next was the long jump at about 8metres high. Though the distance between the boards is just less than 2 meters. But the height was very scary. I’m so glad that everyone made it: D
After these 3 activities, it is end of our day. It is worth to wake up early for this definitely!
Quote of the day- The art of simplicity is a puzzle of complexity.
Reflection- From these activities, it has brought to my awareness about teamwork. Just one person, it may cause the whole team to fail. I LOVE THE DRAGON MDE FAMILY! :D

Day 22 in Wuhan

Today we were off from school as we had a industrial visit at the Hubei's CocaCola Company.
It was interesting to see how the company works. From recycling the bottles, to washing of bottles till how the end product is produce.
When we reached the company, we headed to their hall to watch a short video clip about Coca Cola Company. While watching the video, we also get to enjoy 200ml of Coca Cola drink.
We then had a tour around the Company, seeing each and every processes. Isn't it cool! The tour was rather interesting despite it was pretty short. Working in Coca Cola company seems to be an easy job! I want more of these visits!!!
Quote of the day- Don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use. -Earl Nightingale
Reflection- Factory visit to the Coca Cola Company was great. Initially, i though that Coca Coca Company only makes the drinks and that's all. But in the Company, they actually recycle the bottles, wash the bottles bringing environmentall issue to aware. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. LET'S GO GREEN!

Day 21 in Wuhan

9 am lesson today, and we had our IS.
This time round, IS lesson was about China history and also confucianism by the Dean of foreign language school. Everything was pretty alright, except the part about confucianism as it is pretty dry, and some of us dose off specially when the weather is so cooling.
After which, a handful of us headed to Grand Ocean to have our lunch. Travlling took less then an hour by public bus, while some others took the cab. We had beef steak for lunch and it was one of the best meal i had in Wuhan. Spent our time walking around followed by Dinner at Macdonald. MacPork! & we ended our day...
Quote of the day- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. -Ralph Waldo Emerson
Reflection- Intially, i though that Maconald are all Halal. But i was wrong. They've a wide variety and they're non-halal. So, to alert all the Malays. Take precaution, and make sure there's a halal sign before you eat...

Day 18, 19 & 20 in Wuhan

I’m back from 3 gorges. The trip started on Friday till this afternoon. This trip was great and it made me further understand the culture in China.
On Friday, we woke at as early as 5.45am to prepare our journey. Firstly, we sat a long ride bus for about 6 hours and we stopped at YiChang to have our lunch. Yichang is a place that have yet to develop, pretty “wulu”. Lunch was great at YanSha DaJiuDian and our table totally swept everything off the dishes. How i wish every meal was like that.
We then continued our journey and we visited the 3 gorges exhibition halls, and it was rather interesting knowing how the dam is being build and function. After all the visiting we had our dinner. Dinner was just ordinary.
When the night fall, it was time to board up the cruise. We waited for a hour at the jetty, and the whole place was chaotic. It was so difficult to walk to the entrance, and even going to the counter to get the tickets and so on.
After the squeezing and long walk to our cruise, we finally settled down. The rooms were rather small, and it was very stuffy as the windows were very small, and the wind just glide thru the cruise instead of going into our room. After we gotten our cards to enter the roof terrace, we headed up to enjoy the views. However, it was totally dark with no lights, that was definitely scary! Headed back to our room and ended our day.
On Saturday morning, we woke up at 6am and had our breakfast on the cruise. It was the same type of food that we usually have. Salted vegetables, buns, egg, congee and soy milk. By the time we finished our breakfast, we was at ChongQing.
Our first stop for the day was 白帝城. It resembles just like the time when i went to BeiJing. The structure was ancient, and they also have the mini Great Wall of China.
To reach some of the exhibition halls, we will have to climb 200-300 steps. Yes again, i guess this is gonna be a good training for WuDang San next week.
Next destination was 神农溪, where TuJia Culture grows. TuJia culture was interesting especially the part on the suspended coffin. Despite the long heritage, the suspended coffin still exist, and through the rides on the boat, i managed to see 3 of the coffins. They were all located at the holes in between the caves. This is really Interesting!
We then had a ride on the small boats at the Shen Nong Xi stream. This small boats were'nt the ordinary ones. All this boats are actually operated manually by the TuJia people. With a boat of 17 people, 7 boatmen will row the boat. It was very tough especially when they are elderly. That scene was a heart wrenching moment. The ride was about an hour and then we headed back to cruise, and the drizzle came.
Rested all the way till about 11pm, and everyone came awake. Our cruise is bypassing the 3 gorgous dam. There were a total of 5 gates. From each gantry, it reduces as much as 20m in depth of water, YES 20 METRES! Each gantry took about 20 mins to reduce the water level, before it proceed to another. By the time it finished crossing all the gantries, it was already 3+am. 3 gorges dam are the saviour of many villages, preventing floods and droods.
Day3- Morning breakfast was at 6.30am, and we had the same thing for breakfast. Nap time after breakfast as we headed back to the jetty where we came from.
By the time our cruise reached the jetty, it was about 10am. We headed back to our buses which would send us back to school. It was raining cats and dogs, and i swear we had a hard time boarding up the buses, as they were very far.
As soon as we settle on the bus, everyone fell asleep throughout the bus ride. & we finished our weekend tour at around noon. This trip was an eye-opener experience.
Drastic change in Temperature- Is 18 degree currently! Is freezing cold!!!
Quote of the day- One may go a long way after one is tired.

Reflection- At the Sheng Nong Xi Stream, it was definitely a heart wrenching moment. 7 boatmen would have to row the boat for hour and get down the boat to pull the whole boat at the turning point. The boat men were aged from 30 years old to 50 years old, and it happens that most of them were in their late 40s. They exerted so much force that i was able to see their vains on their neck! After working so hard, they only earned 25 RMB, which is close to SGD $5. i just can't stop my tears rolling down seeing them working so hard. I have yet to experience the worst yet and i am calling for help. What about them?

Day 17 in Wuhan

Today, we had our first written test for BPE in the afternoon. The written test was rather challenging and i didn't had time to finish the paper. I guess i'm not well-prepared for structure questions. I must pull up my socks!!! :(((
After written test, my roomates & i took Quiz 4 which we have missed it on monday. Now,i'm left with Flexim before i'm back on track...
In the evening, we went for physical training, and had our dinner. Ended our day early as we will be on tour around the 3 gorges river from 18-20 September. Catch me soon yea, i bet is gonna be a interesting trip!
Quote of the day-He conquers who endures. -Persius
Reflection- Seeing the common test booklet reminds me when i am having common test or exam. I've been neglecting my studies for the past one semester, and my result is definitely not gonna be good at all. Yes i deserve it, cause no effort was put in at all. No point crying over spilt milk. Learn from it...

Day 16 in Wuhan

This morning was another round of IS class, and the teacher's name was Christopher. His english was pretty good as he was able to pronounce every english word with correct articulation, however his lesson was kind of boring as he reads off from the slides. I had a hard time concentrating and what made it worst was that my eyelids were heavy.
Today's topic was on Traditional Chinese Wedding & FengShui, and the teaching method was different as compared to the previous one. The lesson was conducted with the use of headphone , which i don't find it good at all.
Had lunch and then back to study at 2pm. BPE lecture, quiz and follow by our very first presentation for Assignment1. Presentation when pretty well and we ended our day. Finally another load off our shoulder...
Quote of the day-The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from the motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into out souls. -Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Reflection- Everything has its pros and cons. By using the headphone, people tend to concentrate better and noise distraction will be minimize. However the volume was too soft despite having its maximum volume, and also my ears hurt after an hour. The idea is that but the concept isn't right. Improvement is definitely needed!

Day 15 in Wuhan

i enjoyed my day very much going out with the local students today. Before i continue, i would like to say a great thanks to the local students whom took the effort to bring us out and spending so much time with us.

In the afternoon, we headed to the Mandarin Orange Farm. It was definitely a eye opener experience as it was my very first time going to a fruit farm. The oranges here were unique. Usually in Singapore, the oranges are in orange colour, however over here, the orange are in GREEN! Yes, green just like the colour of lime. The farm was so huge, and we were entitled to "FREEFLOW" of oranges. As we walked around the farm, we chose the oranges from the tree and plucked. We then peel the oranges to eat. Some were as sweet as sugar, while some were as sour as lime. We need to be skillful to pluck the sweeter oranges. The local students also set small fire and start to cook some sweet potatoes that were found around the farm. Had the "kampong" feel....
After which, we went back to the campus and rest before we had our BBQ Dinner. The BBQ took place at a campsite beside the school, and it was literally the "old school" style whereby we have to start the fire with just natural resources. We had to gather dried leaves and branches to start the fire. It was fun indeed.
While the sky was dark, we lighten the area by blasting music using the portable speaker, not forgetting ICT division putting up their fireworks and the firecrackers. It was just fun! However due to food constraint, we then headed out for decent dinner before we headed back to our hostel to rest.
Another day i enjoyed.

Quote of the day- You have to believe. That's the secret of success. -Charles Chaplin
Reflection- The campsite facilities were very "old school" and it just reminds me of HongKong drama. I always thought that to start a fire, starter is essential. What if one day, im lost in a jungle and i would have to start a fire to keep myself warm without any lighter, matchsticks or starter? I shall start picking up these life skills!

Day 14 in Wuhan

Receipt given by the hospital

Today, roomates of Room 331 were excused from school.
Both AnYu & i used the time and took JunRu to the hospital for another checkup.
Her condition seems to be much better as compared to yesterday, however she's still having diarrhoea and slight fever. Therefore, she was on drip again.
Spent almost the whole morning in the hospital and then headed back to hostel to have a good rest, to Replenish the sleep that i've lost for the past few nights... :D
Tomorrow is gonna be another busy day. Will be going to mardarin orange farm & BBQ with the local students :)
Quote of the day- Human pride is human weakness. -M. B. Eddy
Reflection- The medical culture over here is so different as compared to Singapore. Hygiene was compromise in the hospital, and this may cause virus to grow. Hopefully as time comes by, the standard would improve.

Day 13 in Wuhan

2nd Day of City Tour around Wuhan.
Today's trip was enjoyable as it was not cramped up as compared to yesterday, however JunRu gave this trip a missed as she was not feeling well.
Firstly, we headed to some park along the YangTze River. We enjoyed the scenic view, and the breeze blowing on our faces. Many people were flying kites along the strong wind, while money rolls in for the shopkeepers whom are selling the kites. The kites were so beautiful, and there were many designs! How i wish i could get one of the kite and fly it! But i know given the time frame, i have only 10 mins to fly the kite, therefore i gave it a missed.
We were then given time to do shopping at 江汉路, however we spend most of the time exploring the place. I guess i am gonna to leave my shopping time at the last few weeks for this trip :D
Headed back to the Hostel which took about 2 hours or so, and i manage to catch some sleep :)

Situation-When we was back to the Hostel, AnYu and i realised JunRu was running a fever at a temperature of 39.7 degree despite the treatment she had this morning at the school's hospital. Therefore, we immediately contacted our lecturer and brought her to the nearby hospital/clinic. It was definitely scary to even step into a Hospital by seeing the building. The building was rather old, and cleanliness wasn't up to the standard at all. ChinKuan & I spent our night time in the hospital with JunRu while she was on drip till she was done with it. Hope she gets well soon...
Quote of the day- Practice makes perfect. -G. Crabbe
Reflection-From my observations, i realised China's medical treatment does not comes in medicine based. It comes in drip, regardless how serious your condition is. Once you consult a doctor, the doctor would put u on drip instead of giving you pills or syrup.
By dripping, it would made a person recover once the drip finishes as it flows directly into the blood stream, but doesn't it hurts everytime when the needles have to be injected into the vains? Also, alot of time is wasted when patients have to spend hours sitting on the seats dripping. I'm so glad that Singapore medical treatment aren't in this way. Now i'm starting to appreciate how advance medical is in Singapore...

Day 12 in Wuhan

Is weekend again!!! :D
Today we had a City Tour around Wuhan.
Firstly, we visited 东湖, a lake with beautiful scenery, and the Exhibition Hall for QuYuan was there too. Here is a brief story os QuYuan: QuYuan was kind of the Emperor right hand man. One day, QuYuan was devastated as the emperor choose to trust another emperor then him, and eventually, he committed suicide. Another sad story in the Chinese History.
We then went on to 湖北省博物馆 (Museum)to understand and view the ancient relics of China history. Seeing the ancient artefacts, including the TOMBS! The museum was so huge that we only manage to cover about one and half buildings out of three building given the time frame.
Next we proceed to have our lunch at Shou Garden Snack Street. The food was great, especially the well known Tang Bao (Soup dumblings). How i wish i have more time over there and try all kinds of food.
Next destination is the Yellow Crane Tower, and it was indeed a tiring moment. Why do i say so? From the outer view of the building, the building seems to only have 5 storeys high, however to get up there, we are required to climb stairs that are 9 storeys high. What a great workout! To some people, this tower maybe just an ordinary, but behind this tower, it has a rich history in it. Here's the story about the Yellow Crane Tower : CLICK HERE!
The view from the top was so beautiful, and we were able to see the industrial buildings and expressways. I just had a great feeling standing at the top of the building enjoying the views. Headed back to Hostel once we finish our visit.
Totally exhausted by the end of the day, today's activites were too cramped up... :(

Quote of the day- Well done is better than well said. -B.Franklin
Reflection- There is a rich history for chinese, and it is never enough to understand them in less then a day. It is a blessing that i am able to view some of the artefacts that are being left over from many thousands years ago. I hope these artefacts can be preserve so that in the future generations, they are able to view it. :)
JunRu is falling sick. Hope she gets better...

Day 11 in Wuhan

Our first group picture with Mr Loh :D
Today was my first day having IS lesson for this trip. IS lesson are all conducted by the local teachers in English. To my surprise, they can speak fluent english.
For the first IS lesson we had, we were teached by Anna. We learn about the culture of Wuhan, the different dynasties, festivals that they celebrate, and the famous places (Tourist attraction areas). It was so interesting that my eyes were wide open despite only having a few hours of sleep on that night. I wanna explore Wuhan!!! :D
Had Western food for Lunch.
In the afternoon, BPE lesson was cancelled and therefore we headed back to Hostel to revise our Flexim. Gotta be prepared for the first Practical test...
In the evening we then had a surprise birthday celebration specially for MingYu & ShunQing. Firstly, we dragged the both of them to the stadium, while others went to the nearby bakery to get the birthday cakes. Preparation was done within an hour and it was finally the time to present the cakes. We sang birthday song and then proceed to the "tradional game". The place was chaotic indeed. While some got their "facial", the others continued to played soccer with a group of local people... Singapore vs China. and yeap, im proud to be a Singaporean. SINGAPORE WIN!!! It was indeed a close one and everyone enjoyed. :)
Last but not least, "Happy 19th Birthday MingYu!"
& i'm so looking forward to this weekend City Tour!!! :D

Quote of the day- Freedom lies in the being bold. -R.Frost
Reflection- I though i've understand the chinese culture, but i was totally wrong. After listening to Anna's lecture, i realised there are many aspect in the Chinese culture. It was indeed a interesting one. I shall make use of the rest of my 31 days in Wuhan to explore!!!

Day 10 in Wuhan...

Had school today at 2pm, and that gave me a reason to sleep late and complete my learning plan.
When i was doing my learning plan, i realised there are many things to learn during this 6 weeks in Wuhan. 6 weeks is never too long to understand a part of the country...
Once i woke up, the usual thing i would do is to check the temperature out there. Temperature rised again, back to the hot weather which i've been praying that we would not suffer from. i miss the cool weather alot :(
Skipped lunch and headed to class.
Lecture, Quiz 3, Flexim, and end of lesson...
Dinner @ KFC & we ended our day.

Quote of the day- In life, as in chess, forethought wins. -Charles Buxton

Reflection-After having so many bad experiences with KFC, i've come to a conclusion that why China did not step out third world country earlier is because there were lack of some stuff, & this includes customer service. From this incident, it shows me that customer service affects its country severely, and local people should be trained for it.

Day 9 in Wuhan

Today is 9 September 2009, also known as 09/09/09.
and yeap, it is Rebecca's 18th Birthday! I whereby wishes her a very happy birthday and may all her wishes come true.
Despite our lesson today was in the morning 9am, all 20 of them stayed up till 12am to give Rebecca a surprise. We surprised her with a huge cake & flowers, not forgetting a video specially made for her. Laughters were everywhere but at the same time, we were trying our best to control the noise level. Do cake reminds you of cream?
Yes, we had a cream fight too. By the time when all the fun was over, the place was in a mess, and yes, everyone do their part to clean up. But the most commentable was Mr Nice (ChinKuang). He came to help the girls to mop the floor despite it was already 2am.
School at 9am, & no one was late :D
We STUDY HARD & also PLAY HARD!!!

Quote of the day- Freedom lies in the being bold. - R.Frost
Skipped lunch and had the intention to have our dinner over at KFC. But in the end, it came out a different story. Had a bad experience with fast food restaurant in China...
Reflection- As i walked into KFC, i queued while looking at the menu deciding what shall i get. After a moment, it was my turn. I was tempted to have their new prawn burger which ChinKuang had recommend me too. I then ordered that with a set meal, so as not to spend additional money on drinks or snacks if the burger wasn't filling. The lady replied me in the rude manner and said there's no more left and no set meal left. No more left? No set meal? What does it mean? No more left was refering to the burger. No more set meal as all the KFC drinks are sold out therefore, they're unable to sell in set meal. I then decided to get 2 piece chicken, and the person also said it ran out. Then i had alternative choice to have "Bandito", same thing happen. RAN OUT!!! Everything ran out!!! They practical had nothing and why are they still open for business. What made me even more frustrated is that their staff don't even bother to speak nicely to their customer. Customer service? They probably should implement this system. I wouldn't denied that i'm frustrated over it, but is this how they should treat their customer? Im totally disappointed by it. :(

Day 8 in Wuhan

Today's lesson was in the afternoon and this gave me a reason why i slept late the previous night. Morning was suppose to be my first IS Lesson from the local lecturer, however the lecturer fell sick, therefore lesson was cancelled.
The weather have changed drastically. When i woke up this morning, as i opened the door, i felt the strong breeze of cool air came blowing against my face. Yes, FINALLY SOME COOL AIR! Temperature was about 25degree. Not too cold and not to warm. SWEET! I can't believe that the temperature can drop as much as 10 degree in less than 24 hours. It just so unpredictable.
Great weather + Great exercise = Great Day? YES FOR ME!
Since weather was great, we decided to have physical training again. Instead of running around the campus, we chose a different route and ran around the track. Who say people can't keep fit even they're on immersion program? Right! :D
After PT, we headed out of campus for dinner. We had "Wantons", Chinese dumpling with fillings. There's wide variety of wantons as compared to Singapore. Usually there's only pork meat, however over here, they have more then 16 Flavours. I tried the prawn flavour and it was tasty and fresh. I want more flavours in Singapore too!!!
Gonna have a late night tonight....

Quote of the day- A good book is the best of friends, the same today and forever. -Martin farquhar Tupper

Reflection- Most people had that mentality thinking that people in China tend to be impolite and rude, which is so not true. This is what happen in the eatery. After a few customers left the eatery, the boss immediately came forward to take our orders at the counter, which reduce the waiting time. Once we were seated, he immediately cleared the table. We thanked him, and he said " bu ke qi" (Welcome) with the wide smile on his face. We then asked for more Vinegar as it was running out, he immediately took an extra bottle for us on top of the refilled bottle.
Though we're not from the local, they show no biased and treated us as part of them. I just felt the "homecoming" feeling. :)

Day 7 in Wuhan

First day of school.
After a week of free-and-easy "holiday", we are finally back to school. We had BPE lesson in the morning and we reported to class at 9am.
Journey to classroom was indeed a tough one as compared to NgeeAnn poly. We have to walk for more then 20 mins before we can reach the school of foreign study. Not forgetting climbing 135 steps before we can reach the entrance.
When all of us reached the class, all of us were breatheless, and we had to clean up our table as the table was covered with a layer of dust. Mr Loh had to even use chalk board during lesson, as they do not have the modern white board that Singapore is using.
I miss NgeeAnn Polytechnic facilities :(
Lesson till afternoon and had another orientation around the other schools. We visited the school of Life Science and Informatics Engineering. Pretty interesting. But we are suffering from a minor sunburn after walking from the East Campus to the West Campus having its temperature as high as 39 degree celsius. Terrible! Praying that the temperature will drop as days comes by...
Physical training in the evening before having dinner. & That's about it...

Quote of the day-What makes life dreary is the want of motive. -George Eillot

Reflection- Never take things for granted.
We always assumed that "this" thing & "that" thing is always no good or not enough. We tend to take things for granted and demand more. We will only realised how fortunately we are when we see a worst situation.

Day 5 & 6

Back from Wubei, Lulin.
This weekend trip was enjoyable, other then the injuries JunRu & i had.
On Saturday morning, we headed up to Wubei by bus which took us about 4 hours. The journey was very jerky and i felt as if i was on a roller coaster. Despite the road up to the mountain was narrow, the driver still sped and our butts practically flew out of the seats. But it was fun at the same time, as we treated that experienced like we were on a F1 Race Car. haha
Had lunch and then we went for Rafting.
JunRu was my partner and we boarded up on one of the boat. For the first 10 minutes of the rafting, it was pretty fun as the current swept us down, but disastrous came after that. Both JunRu and i was feeling very uncomfortable at our lower abdomen and initially i thought that the water was dirty.
After asking others about it, none of them felt uncomfortable, and both of us came to a conclusion that we were attacked by water-bond insects (only for our boat). We then continued our journey as we had about 2 more hours of rafting. My body was itch and at the same time hurting badly. I then decided to look at my ankle which was more convenient for me, and i realised there were many thorns on the area of my ankle where it was swollen, itch and also where i feel the prickles of pain. The thorns were very fine and it seems that it was from a plant. It just hurt so badly. Junru had minor of it too.
We suffered badly, however we persevered and continued to raft till the end. By the time we finished rafting, some of the thorns had already entered into my body and i'm unable to take it out. Blisters have also appeared in both of my hands due to the tedious rafting.
After which, we continued our activites, and went to look at the man-made water falls.
The scenic view really fascinates me, and i have no regrets going through the long walk despite my injuries.
We then headed to have dinner before we bunk into our hotel at the LuLin Shan, which was our first hotel stay for this trip. The hotel was pretty comfortable and that's how i ended my first weekend for the trip.

On Sunday,
We woke up at 7am and get ourselves prepared for breakfast before we continued our journey. We went for trekking, and it was definitely fun, up in the mountain. The sun was shining brightly, but at the same time, the cold wind was blowing strongly on our face.
We visited the man-made areas of the ancient warfare and i even got the chance to ride on a horse, which i have been wanting to for the past few months. The horse did not stroll, but literally run. My feeling was undesirable for that moment. I want more horse ride!
After trekking, we headed back to Wuhan which took us about 6 hours.
Reached WUST in the evening and had free-and-easy. Dined at WUST Canteen 2 and the food was very spicy. The food here are either flooded with chilli, if not too oily. Can't really find much healthy food over here. Exercise after dinner...
Headed out to stroll after dinner hoping there were more street stalls out there as it is a weekend.
& Hostel sweet HOSTEL :D
Tomorrow is gonna be our first day in school in WUST. :D

Quote of the day-The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won't. -Henry Ward Beecher

Reflection- From this weekend tour in LuLin, i've learn to Persever.
When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on. I have a choice to stop rafting and just pray that the current would bring us to the end of the route, but i know that i can do much better than this. Never let the obstacle get into my way to success. No regrets... :)

Day 4 in Wuhan

Im back here blogging again. :D
We finally had our orientation this morning which was suppose to be on Thursday. We walked up the slopes and headed to our block (School of Foreign Language) and classroom (407). The classrooms are covered with tonnes of dust. How i wish there were cleaners to keep the cleanliness of the campus at that moment.
Right after orientation, we immediately wen back to our hostel to catch some sleep. & We had a surprised in the afternoon. YaNan (One of the exchange program student) came to visit us. Though i do not know her that well, but she was friendly and nice. She took abt 3 hrs to travel to and fro. We then had dinner together with YaNan and we had something so much different as compared to the previous day. It was having SPICY HOT POT! The hot pot was so spicy that i was practically sweating as if it was drizzling, and we ate alot. We ate a total of 150 sticks, and the bill only came out 100RMB for 10 people, which means each person is paying only SGD$2.10! Dirt cheap! Was wondering can i get this price in Singapore? i guess i will never.Had briefing after dinner for the weekends plan and ended my day.
Pictures...

Gonna be away from Wuhan this weekend.
RAFTING & TREKKING TOMORROW IN WUBEI :D

Quote of the day- Hope its itself a species of happiness, and, perhaps, the chief of happiness which this world affords. -Samuel Johnson

Reflection- After walking around the campus, i then realised how fortunate Singapore students are. We have school keepers to take care of the cleanliness of the campus and even have lifts up to our classroom levels, while the people over here would have to clean their tables and have to climb up the flights of stairs to the levels where their classroom are located. We are grudging over small little things in Singapore, what about them?

Day 3 in Wuhan

3 Sept 2009.
Instead of having a better weather, the weather just got worst. It was so humid that I was sweating profusely.
We started our day at about 11am, and headed to Town. & it was the very first time i took a public bus in Hubei. We took the public bus to the shopping mall, and the journey was pretty jerky.
There were no bells on the bus, neither were there machines to collect our payment. Everything was through manual labour. (People shouting to alight & having a conductor to collect the money and issuing the bus tickets). I just didn't expect this.
After 30 mins ride, we arrived at I-GO Shopping Mall (the longest pedestrian in the world of 1350 metres long), & we had free-and-easy schedule till 6pm.
There were many shops in the mall, but some shops are actually selling the similar things.
We walked and strolled till it was finally 5.45pm and we headed to the meeting point.
Journey back to the hostel was terrible as it was a peak period. We've actually missed 2 buses and we had to chase after the bus that was coming next. Xanier and i tried our best to stop the bus. That scene was just like typicals Aunt being KiaSu in Singapore.
The bus was sardine pack, and it was definitely a bad experience. This was wen i started to appreciate Singapore SBS Buses. How i wish i could rent a bicycle and cycle back to school at that moment!
Reached hostel and we had our free & easy dinner. We decided to have street stalls food again :D however, not from the similar street, but the opposite one. Hygiene was almost similar to the previous street however they had a wider variety of food. Tasted all the eccentric food and im craving more... Just pray that i do not get any food poisoning or diarrhoea. haha. & oh ya, i also saw people playing pool at an open area. Haha, i guess i'll nva get to see that in Singapore...LOL that is how i ended my day :DDD
Catch me soon :D

Day 2 in Wuhan

Day2 was a free-and-easy day. My roommates and I made use of this time to do some shopping for our basic necessities for our stay in Wuhan. We bought much stuff which includes mop, porcelain cups, kettle, detergents, extension plug, basket and nevertheless a dozen of 2.2 liters of water. Anyu and I lugged 26.4 liters of water from the provision shop all the way to the campus. What a hard time indeed. We then had lunch at KFC fast food restaurant and continue to stroll around as we explore the area till the evening. We also got some fruits to keep our diet balance too :)
Met up with the guys in the evening and we had street hawker food for dinner. Not to worry, I’ve prepared pills in case if I would to suffer from diarrhea or food poisoning. Haha. The food tasted great. I want more of it!
Headed back to hostel after dinner and we did a mass clean up for the whole room. While Anyu & I cleans up the room, JunRu set up the modem for connection, and everything is done in less than 1 hour. Good teamwork huh!:D
Anw, my contact in China is 13477058160. Do contact me thru this number as i will not be using Singapore sim card for the moment.

The journey begins

1 Sept 2009 is the beginning story of the 3rd batch Overseas Immersion Program (OIP).
Firstly, we met up at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 1. Many of our family members and friends were there to bid farewell. It was definitely a tearing moment as we will be away for 6 weeks. Flashes were everywhere as we took photos with our love ones.
Time flies, and it was finally the time to checked-in our luggage and head into the departure gate. Tears were rolling down from cheeks, but at the same time, we were excited for the trip.
The trip to Wuhan was not a direct flight, and we had to transit at Guangzhou. We flew off from Singapore Changi Airport to Guangzhou on China Southern Airline, CZ 352 at 8am.
We landed at Guangzhou International Airport at 12pm and had our lunch as our Domestic flight will only depart at 530pm.
We board up CZ 3344 and arrived in Wuhan at 7pm.
After retrieving our luggage, we headed out of the airport, and first thing that everyone is curious about was the weather. The weather was pretty cooling as compared to Singapore, was wondering will this temperature stay throughout the next few days….
We took the chartered bus and headed to Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST). Once we reached the campus, the first thing we did was to have our dinner at its campus restaurant. The dinner was a 13 course meal and it only cost 20 RMB per pax (SGD$5).
We then headed to our hostel which didn’t turn out as bad as I thought initially. I felt pretty homely once I stepped into the hostel as compared to hotel. & I’m proud to have AnYu & JunRu as my roommates. We unpacked our luggage and had a small discussion to write down the things we needed to get for our room. We ended our day at around 2am.
